Ahead of the US release of the third instalment of Marvel Studios’ popular Ant-Man franchise, Volkswagen has announced a collaboration that will see the future-focused, all-electric ID.4 e-SUV feature in both the movie and its associated marketing material.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania sees protagonist, Scott Lang (played by Paul Rudd), continuing to explore the bounds of physics via his ability to manipulate his size relative to the outside world. Teamed-up with love interest Hope Van Dyne and her alter ego, The Wasp, as well as her parents Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), while joined by recruit, Lang’s daughter, Cassie, the latest Marvel Studios movie will see Ant-Man heading precariously into the so-called Quantum Realm, the space between spaces…

Away from their respective high-tech superhero suits, Lang’s vehicle of choice for his everyday family life will be a Volkswagen ID.4.

Volkswagen’s best-selling EV, to date, the ID.4 is designed around the brand’s innovative MEB platform and assembled – for the US market – at the Group’s Chattanooga Tennessee Plant. The 2021 World Car of the Year, this latest collaboration between VW and Marvel Studios will look to showcase recently introduced updates to the ID.4 package. Increased performance and operating range aside, these include a redesigned centre console with larger, 12-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment system.

While the corresponding taglines for press material released, to date, in the build-up to the movie’s 17 February movie premier quips that a shrinking function isn’t, in fact, included within the car’s purchase price, the newest ID.4 does feature a new autonomous parking function, an Area View 360-degree camera system and 45-watt USB-C fast device charging.

“Marvel Studios films rank among the most successful movies of all time and Ant-Man is one of the most likeable characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Integrating the ID.4 in the movie and the accompanying campaign enables us to reach millions of people all over the world,” says Gilbert Heise, Head of Global Brand Management and Consumer Insights at Volkswagen. “What’s more, the Ant-Man character is a perfect fit for our brand: he is likable, authentic and has a great sense of humour,” he adds.

While a future behind-the-scenes featurette will give viewers an inside look at the making of the movie, including the placement of the ID.4 e-SUV, the vehicle will also be presented on the red carpet and the movie’s world premiere, in Los Angelis.

“Nowadays, emotional. Storytelling through this kind of cooperation is enormously important for brands,” explains Salim Yüksel, who is responsible for Future Trends, Strategic Partnerships and Global Branded Entertainment at Volkswagen and jointly leads the project alongside Volkswagen of America. “We are very proud to have brought together our global brands with such a creative project.”
