Since its introduction in 2019, the smallest member of Volkswagen’s burgeoning family of raised ride height products has also proven to be one of its most popular. Sharing its AO platform with the modern Polo hatch, more than 1.2 million customers globally have taken delivery of a VW T-Cross.

Similarly popular in South Africa where with 31 258 sales, to date, this characterful package is the brand’s best-selling imported vehicle, local customers can look forward to an updated version of the T-Cross arriving in 2024

Showcased via one of three new optional exterior paint colours, Grape Yellow, the enhanced T-Cross will debut an updated bumper design, front and rear, as well as new signature LED light bars and for the first time on this model, the option of VW’s intuitive IQ. Light LED matrix headlamps.

Borrowed from the Polo GTI’s exterior colour palette, Kings Red metallic should also prove to be a striking new choice for those who like to stand out.

The brand has considered feedback from its customers in redesigning the T-Cross’ interior to include enhanced material quality throughout the range and offering improved ergonomics and features compared with the first car. To this end, new soft-touch surfaces as debuted in other members of VW’s SUV family have now been included in the smallest member's cabin.

With Digital Cockpit virtual instrumentation now standard throughout the range, pride of place with the car’s cabin is a free-standing touchscreen infotainment display, ranging from 8 inches to 9.2 inches in size, depending on the derivative.

Significant for those who may wish to transport an e-bike on the back of their T-Cross, the carrying capacity of this Volkswagen has been increased by 20 kilograms compared with the first car, now able to transport 75 kg on the optional tow bar hitch.

One of the first models in this segment to offer adaptive cruise control, VW’s Travel Assist combines the convenience of intuitive throttle and braking technology to safely maintain a predetermined distance to traffic around the vehicle – including emergency braking to avoid a potential collision – but also combines with active lane-keeping assistance to offer optimal on-the-move efficiency.

Fitted with a choice of proven TSI turbopetrol motors, the top-of-the-range T-Cross will remain the popular, sporty-looking R-Line derivative.
